The Sculpture and Installation Art team are one of five teams within the Conservation department at Tate which is part of the wider Collection Care division, comprising of Library and Archives, Collection Management and Conservation.
The Division works across all Tate sites; Tate Liverpool, Tate St Ives and our central London sites (Tate Britain, Tate Modern and Tate Stores).
We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Assistant Sculpture Conservator to join our team.
This is an entry level role with a primary focus on the loans out programme and ensuring that art works are condition checked and packed and installed to Tate standards. In this role you will be responsible for preparing works for exciting exhibitions and displays programme across all Tate sites and supporting Tate collection care initiatives. You will mainly support activity across Tate sites, but there will be some opportunities to also support UK and international projects.
To be successful in this role you will hold a professional qualification in conservation (Sculpture or Objects Conservation) or have equivalent relevant training and experience in this area. You will also have a range of knowledge of materials and an understanding of preventive conservation and packing of artworks. Able to work under supervision and independently, you will be involved in on the preparation, condition checking, conservation and installation of artworks, as well as preventive conservation task. An effective communication with good interpersonal skills you will provide specialist advice to a range of stakeholders and colleagues with and without a background in conservation. Your organisational, time management and problem-solving skills will be key to ensuring that the tasks required are completed to deadlines.
